Why should I see a therapist?

Seeing a therapist is a good option because as a client you will be in a safe environment. Unlike a friend or relative a therapist will be safe to talk to. The therapist will not judge or share your private thoughts or information. A therapist is also trained to assist you and is able to teach you coping skills by giving you the tools and guidance to help you with your situation.

How do I make an appointment?

EBHS prides itself on making the process of getting therapy smooth and seamless. You can choose to schedule an appointment or do a 20 minute consultation with a therapist.

If you decided on a  20-minute consult session, you and your therapist will get to know each other by talking about what made you decide on counseling and if you decide that you want to schedule a session you may do so.

You can also make an appointment online and you will be emailed paperwork, as you would if you called in. If you want a free 20-minute consultation, you can indicate that in your message and the receptionist will call to schedule one.

For appointments call (813) 438-5672 or visit our Contact page.

What is the initial phone consultation?

A phone consultation is a mini-session that allows the therapist and the client to get to know each other and to discuss the severity of the problem.

EBHS does this to assist the client and therapist in building rapport before meeting for the individual session.

During the phone consultation, the client can decide if he or she is ready to come in for therapy and the therapist can decide if EBHS can meet the client’s needs before scheduling an appointment.

What should I expect during my first session?

Even if you have had a 20-minute consultation, your therapist and you will continue to get to know each other and begin to explore the counseling relationship.

The therapist and you will talk about why you are in session and talk about what led you to this point in your life. It’s normal to be a little nervous and that’s okay.

What is telehealth and how does a telehealth session work?

Telehealth is called Online therapy in the mental health world. It is also known as telemental health. Telemental health is when a therapist or counselor provides psychological counseling and support over the internet through email, video conferencing, online chat, or a phone call. At EBHS, we provide online therapy through a portal call Therapy Platform. Before your session, you will be sent a link that you will be able to log into a room so you can meet with your therapist. We asked that you make yourself available 10 minutes before your session to make sure that you can log in. if you have any problems, you can contact your therapist.  We asked that you find a quite place in your home where you will not be interrupted or distracted so you can focus on your session.

Do you take insurance?

EBHS accepts most major insurances. At this time, EBHS is accepting new clients with United Healthcare, Cigna, Tricare East, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and Magellan. We are also currently working on getting credentialing  with  Beacon and Humana Insurance. Please note that before a client will be seen,  insurance verification will be required. Please note that you as the client may have coinsurance or be required to pay a copay.  These amounts will be discussed before your session.

How long is a counseling session?

Sessions times may vary because of insurance. An individual session is often 60, 45, or 30 minutes. Session time will be confirmed before your meeting with your counselor.

What does LMHC, MCAP, LMFT and LS stand for?

LMHC stands for licensed mental health counselor. This credential means that the person that holds it is licensed to practice mental health in his or her state.

LMFT stands for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and is licensed within the state to practice this type of therapy.

LS stands for Licensed Supervisor. A licensed supervisor is some who is licensed by their state to train Master level therapists as and assist them in becoming licensed.

MCAP stands for Master level certified addiction specialist. This credential means that the person that holds this certification has been certified to practice as a substance abuse counselor.

What is the cancellation policy?

EBHS asks that our clients give 48 hours’ notice if they are not going to be able to attend a session.

Last minute cancellations cause the practice to lose money because we are unable to fill open slots in time. Someone who needs an appointment will not be able to get one because of the time constraint. The first time you have a late cancellation there will be a $45 fee.

In the future, however, if you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, you will be charged your full session fee. If there is an emergency issue, please contact us as soon as possible. EBHS understands that things happen, we are willing to work with you as much as possible.
